Project Summary

NWT Teachers Association wanted to upgrade their existing website that was designed and developed by Kellett Communications on the latest platform. So this project was to upgrade the platform from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 and all of their content was migrated as is from previous website to new one.

Client Needs

  • Update the existing website to the latest Drupal platform.
  • Migrate all the existing content (Files, text content and images) automatically from previous website to the recent one.
  • All the functionally and user experience for the website visitors should remain the same.

Approach

Kellett planned, developed, and supported NWTTA’s website. A Public and password-protected Member Area has also been developed, requiring a sign-up process requiring manual approval by NWTTA staff.

The website was built in Drupal 8; an open-source content management system based on the Symfony PHP framework. This system provides easy content authoring with editorial moderation, security and reliable performance. The website was upgraded to Drupal 9 from Drupal 8 as soon as all the requirements were met by the Drupal 9 platform. The upgrade from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 was seamless and needed little to no rewriting of code. It also did not need any kind of data migration as the update did not require development of a new database.

Results

We received the following recommendation/feedback from André Corbeil, Finance & Communications Officer and Project Lead on the Website rebuild of the NWTTA:

“You obviously know what you’re doing, but what really pulled me in was how you walked me through how Kellett does website design/construction. I had never heard or conceived of how Kellett did things and was so impressed with the process. I appreciated that your team walked me through everything, not assuming any level of competence on my side while also not talking down to me when it appeared I had some understanding of what was going on. I walked into your office thinking “give me a price/timeframe” and you did your thing, explaining how Kellett does things and how information like price and timeframe comes from the information shared during the discovery process. To be quite honest, I walked into your office fully expecting not to go with Kellett, and by the time I walked out, it was obvious to me Kellett was the obvious first choice that I just didn’t know about until we met."
