Project Summary

The Sahtú Divisional Education Council (SDEC) was established in 1989. Client Needs

  • New modern, mobile-friendly design
  • Ability to have a main board site along with five-school sub sites
  • Social Media Feed for each school
  • Schools may have their own logos and content on their sites
  • It should be possible for an admin to manage all content for the board and school websites and publish it to all websites.
  • A custom resource library for handling documents

Approach

Taking inspiration of one of our similar site (BDDEC) we used a similar approach. We did a content audit of their existing website and came up with a new content flow for the main board and all of the school sites. The stakeholders were involved in every step of the process and the whole project progressed following agile methodologies adapting to client feedback as it came.

Result

A modern, responsive website built on the Drupal 10 platform for a robust and easy-to-use content management system. A variety of settings and content types, making it easy to add and customize various different content to improve the look and feel of the site. Along with an updating social media feed for each separate school to keep users up to date with any recent of the recent happenings.

In addition, all of the sites run on a single platform, allowing for the ability to share a page of content across all the schools, or to have standalone content pages only available on a single school.

A unique feature of the Sahtu DEC Drupal website is the interactive resource media libraries.  There are two separate resource libraries included on this site, both with different access controls. The Resource Library: for general resource files and the Dene Kede Resource Library: An indigenous language library. Users with the correct access rights can modify the resources as they see fit.
